Abtenau, in Austria (in the Salzburg region), is a medium sized ski resort with 7 ski lifts (1 chair lifts, 5 surface lifts) that offers skiers an impressive 830 metres (2723 feet) of vertical descent. Abtenau has 40 pistes with a total length of 80 kilometers (50 miles). Abtenau is best suited to beginner skiers and snowboarders but there is some terrain for both expert and intermediates. There are 70 kilometers (44 miles) of cross country ski trails at Abtenau. The closest airport is at Salzburg and the transfer time is only 1 hours. The nearest train station to Abtenau is at Golling. There is accommodation located close to the pistes but we would welcome additional information about any hotels or chalets in Abtenau.

I have just returned from Abtenau and thought the skiing was fantastic with loads and loads of snow. Both my sons (Ryan and Aaran) are now fantastic skiers. Just a word of warning if you cannot ski though, the nursery slope is closed for some reason. Apart from that Abtenau is wonderful, a beautiful village and has friendly locals; well worth a visit.
